I left Lantana around 9 for another day of ocean-side cruising with a tailwind, but not before taking advantage of a superior breakfast at the new Holiday Inn. Another high review!
Not long into the day, I met a guy named Wayne from Wales, Europe who I rode with for about 25 miles. He kept the pace moving at a steady 18mph so we made good time. It was very interesting talking to him about the different cultures and hearing his perspective on things. He even offered a few suggestions for future adventures and a few countries I’d defintely want to add to my bucket list. I also noticed that bicycling in these parts is a pretty big deal. There are a LOT of them riding around.
Yet another day of scenic scapes, new construction, and posh (dang-it, Wayne) lifestyles. The area around Ft Lauderdale is undergoing major redevelopment along their coast and it will be gorgeous when it’s finished. Even though it wasn’t a very sunny day, there were thousands of people out on the beach, riding bicycles/skateboards/etc, and supporting the various local businesses. P.S. Another instance of good branding in creative bike stands at every beach entrance sporting “Green Your Routine, City of Fort Lauderdale”
A quick stop for a slurpee just because and I headed over to Hollywood where I was set up with a room at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino who were very enthusiastic about my trip & cause. I was met by Executive Hosts, Kristina & Kristofer (no-relation) who helped check my bike, get me in the room and give me an extensive tour of the facility.
The grounds are pristine and very well managed. There is a huge town square with high end night clubs and restaurants, 5 signature eateries inside, 2 towers of upscale and very comfortable rooms, a resort style swimming pool, a full spa & salon, a mega venue for live concerts, and much more. The entire establishment I’m told is in a constant state of improvement & redevelopment as the organization continually seeks to better accomodate their guests. There is also a lot of new growth popping up around the Hard Rock taking advanatage of the added traffic and economic opportunity.
Everywhere you look, the attention to detail is incredible. It would take at least a week to admire every piece of memorabilia displayed on seemingly every wall and the whole environment is just plain fun. I was offered a meal & enjoyed an Oktoberfest Burger at the Hard Rock restaurant which was superb. I also learned that the Hard Rock Restaurant was what started the entire franchise as a location first in Europe designed to introduce American Cuisine and Culture before it was purchased by the Seminole Tribe and heavily expanded.
Their motto, “Love All, Serve All” couldn’t ring more true as everyone appeared to be having a great time. It is a true pleasure to be hosted here this evening and look forward to returning for a longer stay very soon with my wife. I’m about to head downstairs to indulge in a “world-famous” milkshake and call it a night. Tomorrow, Day 12 of this 15 day trip, after taking a quick swim in that pool, I’ll be riding all the way around Miami & into the everglades to tour the Shark Valley Trail!
